Nandrolone has been a FDA approved drug in the United States since the year 1983. This approval was granted because of its clinically proven positive effects. The drug has shown evidence in muscle growth, appetite stimulation, increased production of red blood cells, and increased bone density.

It has also been proven to be effective in treating anemia, osteoporosis and some forms of neoplasia including breast cancer. It also acts as a progestin-based contraceptive.

Nandrolone is broken down into androgen dihydronandrolone which is much weaker than if it were to be broken down to DHT, which means that the usual deleterious effects common to anabolic steroids on the scalp, skin and prostate are lessened to a degree.

Liver toxicity caused by drugs is also drastically reduced due to the lack of alkylation on the 17-carbon. In addition, because Nandrolone is a progestin, estrogenic effects resulting from the reaction with aromatase is avoided. Unfortunately, effects such as gynaecomastia and reduced sex drive still occur when taken in larger doses.

Erectile dysfunction, cardiovascular damage, and several ailments may occur resulting from the lowering levels of lutenizing hormone through negative feedback.
