Testosterone cypionate has been American athletes’ first choice for a long time. Despite being manufactured globally, it has been found to be exclusively used by Americans compared to any other nation. This has been explained as not just the pride of being the sole consumer, but actually based on it being a superior product and its sworn effectiveness of giving a better “kick” compared to its counterpart, enanthate.
In addition, it also has shown to produce higher water retention, though more research is needed to provide better evidence of causation between them. Despite Americans’ insistence that it is superior, we come from an unbiased and objective stand point in which both steroids (cypionate and enanthate) are interchangeable and neither one is more superior than the other. We have found that both oil-based injectables provide long-lasting elevated testosterone levels lasting for approximately two weeks.
If we were to look at Enanthate closely down to its atoms, we would find that this ester is actually one carbon atom lighter than cypionate. When taken at face level, it would suggest that Enanthate is better in terms of testosterone release. However, the difference is so miniscule that it is hardly noticeable (a difference is of a few milligrams per shot). Regardless, cypionate has been the chosen testosterone ester product on the U.S black market for a very long time.
Testosterone as we know is the primary male androgen, which when taken can lead to pronounced androgenic side effects. This is because the rate in which the testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) affects the intensity of the symptoms related to testosterone use. These side effects include those similar to puberty such as oily skin, acne, body/facial hair growth.
Male pattern balding may also occur as a side effect of taking testosterone, which prompts caution in those who are worried that they may have a genetic predisposition toward male pattern balding to avoid taking testosterone altogether. For those who may want to take testosterone without the side effects, adding the ancillary drug Proscar/Propecia is an option.
This drug prevents the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone and therefore, reduces the chances of experiencing the dreaded hair loss, as well as reducing the other androgenic side effects. Although active in the body for much longer time, cypionate should only be injected on a weekly or bi-weekly basis in order to maintain stable blood levels.
